Claire is the founder of J Bar D Studios, Inc. In the mid 1980's she began taking photographs at local horse shows. She remains one of our primary photographers. However, as the Office Manager, Claire has enabled J Bar D to effectively and efficiently serve our clients. The youngest of three children, Claire was raised in Fruita, Colorado. As the daughter of Appaloosa Hall of Fame breeder Ben Johnson Claire grew up in the horse business--showing and riding her horses in every event available. A genuine horseman, Claire's ability to train and effectively show her horses helped to promote the horses her father bred as well as the horses she and Gordy would breed. Claire and Gordy met while horse showing, were married in October of 1968, and honeymooned in Las Vegas, Nevada while at the Appaloosa National--showing came second. Claire had always enjoyed taking photographs and working in the darkroom developing and printing her own photos. It was in the mid 1980's as she and Gordy were re-focusing their business that Claire began photographing local shows and fairs--processing all of the photos herself. As they began to build J Bar D Studios, Inc., Claire continued to photograph when needed, but has enabled us to give our clients excellent customer service as the Office Manager. When our customers call needing a photo that they "think" was from a show in 1989, it's Claire that finds it. For each photograph taken at eash show or each ranch shoot, and every photograph ordered, it's Claire who makes sure that the negatives are pulled, filed, the photos printed, eyes retouched, and mailed. It's also Claire who makes sure that proofs are sent out and our files remain in order. In short, it is Claire who is behind the scenes ensuring that J Bar D Studios, Inc. is successful. When she has a few moments of spare time, Claire still enjoys riding. Though time has been too short in the last few years to show, after losing her awesome Quarter Horse mare Surenuffa Madam whom she showed successfully in Amateur Halter, Showmanship, Western and English Pleasure, Reining, and Working Cow Horse, she is training her new young Quarter Horse mare "Katherine the Great" (or so we call her).
