Meet Gordy Diers

Gordy has been J Bar D's principal photographer and graphic designer for the past two decades. He has developed effective campaigns for many regionally and nationally recognizable breeders, trainers, and horses.

Gordy, the eldest of four children, was born and raised in the foothills above Golden, Colorado--back in the days when few people lived on Genessee Mountain. In 1957, Gordy won his first Little Britches competition. Gordy roped, reined, pleasured, showed halter horses to national prominence as a horseman. Over the years Gordy owned, showed, and bred some of the top ranked All-Around horses of the 1960's and 1970's.

It was showing horses that brought Gordy and Claire together in the late 1960's. Married in October of 1968, Gordy and Claire honeymooned in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Appaloosa National--the show took a distant second. A few years after they were married, Gordy and Claire moved about 45 miles east of Colorado Springs, Colorado and build Jezebel Flats Ranch into a successful and well-known breeding operation. It was also at this time that Gordy began actively photographing their own horses for advertising purposes--learning angles, timing, and lighting.

In the early to mid 1980's, Gordy and Claire decided to downsize their breeding operation and began to focus on showing for recreation and pursuing other business interests. It was in the late 1980's that J Bar D Studios, Inc. was officially founded and opened for business. Since then, Gordy has travelled coast-to-coast photographing some of the country's most well-respected horsement and some of the country's finest horses. For several years Gordy collaborated with Spin to Win and Ride with Bob Avila photographing horsemen like Bob Avila, Jake Barnes, and Clay O'Brien Cooper.

As J Bar D Studios, Inc. began to grow into one of the top equine photography companies in the United States, Gordy began to apply his artistic skill and knowledge of the horse industry in building advertisements for our clients that have proven to increase bookings to their stallions and give both them and their horses more recognizability. One of the reasons that the ads that Gordy puts together have always been so successful is that his work is truly innovative. He is able to blend artistry, persuasion, and information to make the ads eye-catching with an effective presentation of information needed to keep the potential buyer or mare owner interested.
